KFPS students win PICSE Science awards!

This year, we (Grace and Talisha from P3D) entered the PICSE science competition in the year 6/7 category for the first time. We decided that we would do an experiment which is currently affecting out environment; Global Warming. As solar energy is a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels and coal, we chose to look into solar oven designs. We made 3 different solar ovens and cooked American S’mores( a type of biscuit).

We wrote our hypothesis and results of the experiment and entered the competition. The first stage of the competition was held at Golden Grove HS and we won first place for our school. We were presented medals from our local politician, Mr Zappia. The first four place winners from our school were automatically entered in the Royal Adelaide Show competition where we were up against the best primary school entries in the state.

The judges who are professional scientists said it was a hard decision as there were many entries in the primary school division this year compared to previous years. After waiting patiently for all the other awards to be given out, it finally came to announcing the winners of the year 6/7 primary school division.

We are pleased to announce that we won first place!
