POD 1 Mural

Earlier in term 3 students were given the opportunity to submit drawings about what our school, our community meant to them. We had a large number of drawings submitted, some were from individual students and others were a class collaboration. The drawings were then sent to the artist and he came up with a personalized mural specifically for our school.

1/ The skyline is to represent the view out to the ocean that we are lucky to have at our school.
2/ The Torii Gates, the cherry blossoms, bridge, river and the Japanese figures all represent our Japanese program.
3/ The children playing instruments, singing, drawing and dancing represent our arts/music/drama programs.
4/ The children playing football represents our PE/health program and promotion of active healthy children.
5/ The koalas represent nature and our care for our honourary school mascots.
6/ The wishing well, roses, leaves and variety of folliage represents our schools beautiful outdoor environment that we learn and play in.
7/ The children reading books and using the laptop represent the learning that can come in many forms and be done anywhere, not just the classroom.
8/ The fire is to represent school camps that bring students together and ignite ideas.
9/ The tall ship represents history of the area and that you can see right out to outer harbour where many tall ships are docked.
10/ The students are drawn to depict our multi cultural and diverse school community.
11/ The farm barn is to represent the origins of the school we are built on farm land.
12/ The paths are to represent that our students will choose the path that best suits them and that we don’t all walk the same path.

Our artist Marciano Arents was an absolute pleasure to work with and has an amazing talent. He has been doing this type of work for 16 years and creates these murals using only freehand aerosols. No brushes, taping or templates. His murals are individual and unique and we are so lucky to have this amazing artwork in our school.

We would like to thank all the people who had a hand in this process…
